Day Trip: Pont du Gard and Nîmes (discussion of Roman architecture; visit Roman aqueduct over Gardon; in Nîmes: Roman amphitheater and temple Maison Carrée)

June 4
Day Trip: Le Luberon (Roussillon, Ménerbes, Oppède)

June 5
Day Trip: Arles (Roman forum, baths and amphitheater–to be compared with the one in Nîmes; Romanesque: St Trophime sculptural doorway and cloister; Renaissance and classical architecture: town hall)

June 6
Day Trip: Saint-Rémy de Provence and Les Baux de Provence (Saint- Rémy village and marketplace; Roman ruins: Glanum and Les Antiques; hospital where Van Gogh stayed; Les Baux: medieval fortress and village)

June 7
Half-Day Tour: Villeneuve-lès-Avignon (Carthusian monastery founded in the 14th century; “Le Coronation of Virgin Mary” by Enguerrand Quarton)

June 8
Free time

June 9
Day Trip: Aix-en-Provence (medieval cathedral; 17th and 18th century “Hôtels Particulars”; town hall; wheat market). Also, Cézanne’s house and workshop; Montagne des peintres, vista over Montagne Sainte-Victoire

Day Trip: Orange and Vaison la Romaine (in Orange, visit Roman Theater and Arch of Triumph; in Vaison, medieval village and citadel)
