Thursday, August 9

5PM Students Arrive, Fairbanks

7PM Orientation – Review zine assignment; address any questions of InDesign & zine packet.  Welcome Dinner (subject to weather)

Friday, August 10

Day: Photoshoot and content gathering while at the University of Alaska Fairbanks – L.A.R.S. and Museum.

Evening: Welcome Dinner (subject to weather). Participants to upload content to laptops and begin photo editing and/or layout.

Saturday, August 11

Day: Photoshoot and content gathering while visiting Alaskan Pipeline and Gold Panning.

Evening: Welcome Dinner (subject to weather). Participants to upload content to laptops and begin photo editing and/or layout.

Sunday, August 12

Day: All day photo shoot and content gathering for Zine while on the Glass Dome Train. Individual assistance with InDesign file setup.

Evening: Participants to upload content to laptops and begin photo editing & layout design.

Monday, August 13

Day: Photoshoot and content gathering for Zine while hiking in Denali and visiting Iditarod dogs.

Evening: Review and Edit Photos – Individual session with instructor for questions and review of the layout.

Tuesday, August 14

Day: Denali National Park, Guided Bus Tour. All day photo shoot and content gathering for Zine.

Evening: Participants to upload photos to laptops and begin photo editing and layout design.

Wednesday, August 15

Day & Evening: Train ride to Talkeetna, 48-hour Assignment: Alaskan Life In A Small Town.

Thursday, August 16
Day & Evening: Continue  48-hour Assignment: Alaskan Life In A Small Town.

Friday, August 17

Day: Photoshoot and content gathering for the 48-hour assignment
Evening: Glass Dome Train ride to Anchorage. In-route each participant to have an individual review session with faculty to review and edit layout.

Saturday, August 18

Day: Photoshoot & content gathering for Zine while exploring Alaska Native Heritage Museum & Anchorage Museum

Evening: Pack for Road trip to Seward, prepare equipment.

Sunday, August 19

Day/Evening: All day photo shoot and content gathering on road and in Seward

Monday, August 20

Day: All day photo shoot and content gathering on Marine Tour.

Evening: Farewell Dinner, Return to Anchorage.

Each participant to schedule last individual review session in Alaska with faculty.

Tuesday, August 21
11AM Checkout hotel, Participants Depart

 

After Departure From Alaska

By August 31
Each participant to complete individual session for final critique with faculty to finalize book prior to publication

By September 24
DATE TBD Final Critique
Due four (4) weeks upon return: published zine. Final critique attendance required of all participants. Zine/Book must meet the following criteria: minimum 20 pages, front and back cover, four gutter breaks, printed, bound, cut-to-size, and must be reproducible, contain photographs from the trip, other sourced images, found objects and writing.
